Do I need to use dressing aid (lube or powder) when wearing a zip-front latex jacket?
Focus lubrication on the sleeves and shoulders. While the zipper allows the body of the jacket to open easily, you must apply a small amount of silicone lube or talcum to the inside of the sleeves and across the shoulders. This allows your arms to slide in smoothly, reducing friction that stresses the shoulder seams.
How do I prevent metal hardware (zippers, snaps, buckles) on the coat from staining the latex?
Create a protective barrier during storage. Metal (especially brass, nickel, or copper) causes irreversible chemical stains (usually brown or green) upon contact with latex. Before storing, wrap all metal hardware (especially those touching the latex) tightly with acid-free tissue paper to prevent direct contact.
How do I prevent makeup or perfume from damaging the latex near the collar?
Isolate the area. Oil-based makeup, lipstick, and many perfumes contain chemicals that cause permanent, irreversible stains or material degradation in latex. Ensure the collar area is either lightly dusted with powder before wearing, or completely isolated from any cosmetic product contact.
What is the proper maintenance for the main metal zipper on the jacket?
Regular silicone oil application. The main zippers on jackets are often long and subject to stress. Apply a small amount of silicone oil (not dressing aid) directly to the zipper teeth and the slider mechanism regularly. This keeps the mechanism running smoothly and prevents the zipper from sticking or jamming, which can stress the latex.
